Dr. Bonnie Halsey-Dutton

Bonnie Halsey-Dutton paints complex interwoven forms and ideas, choosing subjects that are symbolic to my life as an artist and as a woman. Life experience can be shaped by personal perception; thus, my paintings reframe the ways that I experience the world. The interplay of pattern, color, and visual texture are common threads in my artwork.

Through painting, she investigates historic narratives and how they shape contemporary society. Human culture is complexly intertwined. Physical objects, along with humans themselves, continuously circumnavigate the earth. I believe that this cyclical process of interaction invites potential for new connections and increased cultural understanding.

Holding PhD in Art History and Education from the University of Arizona, art history and world culture are her constant artistic muses and they also compel her life experiences.

She utilizes watercolor on either Ampersand Claybord or Yupo paper, painting with AQUA-Fix by Schmincke. This allows her to apply vibrant color in multiple layers. She finds my technique conducive to creating a glassy surface through layering of multiple colors. Herartwork is represented in numerous public and private art collections, both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Halsey-Dutton is both a professional visual artist and a fine arts educator, holding a PhD in Art History and Education from the University of Arizona. She exhibits her artwork nationally and internationally, as well as teaches adult art education. Dr. Halsey-Dutton’s interest in travel and global culture is reflected in artwork.
